James, dropped his arms awkward, and wasn't sure how to respond to that except to say, "Okay..."

Nadine stared at him, at the scars on her wrist, out the window at the near-identical houses lining the empty street with blank, perfectly manicured lawns void of personality. Her heart ached, and her head was filled with senseless, disconnected thoughts. She leaned against the wall, closing her eyes. She hadn't a clue what to say to him next. "Have you ever wanted to escape?" she asked in a voice little more than a whisper.

[Tolly12bells]

James nodded, "Yeah... Yeah, I have. You and I both did last summer," he recalled in his mind those nights spent lying awake, wondering what the rest of the world was like. His home was so uniform, that he was uncertain of how things worked outside his protected bubble.

[Dreamer]

"What did you mean?" asked Nadine. "We ran away... together?"

[Tolly12bells]

"Yeah... For a little. Then... Your mom called, and you called child protective services, and, then... You had to go with your uncle..." James cast his gaze downwards, trying not to show how sad it made him.

[Dreamer]

"Oh." Nadine bit her lip. "I knew I had to go live with my uncle because my mom was an unfit guardian, but I don't remember any of that."

[Tolly12bells]

James ran his fingers through his hair, wondering how that much had been forgotten, but stopped to consider what could have happened in that time. It really did make sense.

[Dreamer]

"I really need to stop drinking, don't I?" asked Nadine, sinking down on the couch once again.

[Tolly12bells]

James nodded sullenly, then realized it'd been a while since he'd said anything at all, "Sorry... I don't spend a lot of time with words when I'm not around you... I still stick to myself, just like when we first... Well, never mind... You probably won't remember."

[Dreamer]

"Tell me," Nadine begged. "Please. Tell me about my own past. You probably knew the old me better then I knew myself, and you certainly know me better now."

[Tolly12bells]

((Hey, want to chat tonight?))

"Well," he started, "the first time I really noticed you was in Science. You were going out with this guy named Ryan, and one of your friends told you he was going to break up," James left out the part about how he'd been eavesdropping on the conversation, however, he explained how they'd met, and how they'd kissed for the first time, and everything up until when she had to leave.

((Suresies! I really should be writing but I'm still online because I have 99 followers on Tumblr and I don't want to miss my 100th follower. Because I know that if I come back tomorrow morning I will be 101 and I will be pissed. xD))

Nadine stared at him, open mouthed. "I... if our romance was as perfect as you described it to be, how could I have ever forgotten?"

[Tolly12bells]

((Lol, that timing didn't really work out, did it? Ooh! Cool!))

James curled his fingers around his wrist, "Maybe... Well, you talked about forgetting before your cut yourself. Maybe that is what...?" he trailed off again, hoping that his tone might imply what he meant.

[Dreamer]

((Lol, no, it didn't. ))

"There's nothing left to live for, all you can do for yourself is forget," Nadine murmured. "Oh, my God... I made myself forget you because I couldn't live without you, didn't I?"

[Tolly12bells]

James nodded solemnly, "I think so..."

Nadine stared at him, her lips slightly parted, unable to comprehend what she was hearing. "I... I don't remember a thing, even after you've told me," she said sadly. She stood up and kissed him gently. "I don't know if I'll ever get my memories back, but I hope you can learn to love me as I am."

James blinked rapidly, trying to force back the tears he felt coming on. He swallowed the lump in his throat, and nodded, "We'll make it work."

((Ikr. ))

Nadine gazed into his tear-filled blue eyes and then closed her own, leaning her forehead against his. "I'm so far gone."

[Tolly12bells]

"But," James replied, toying with her hair, just like he used to, "Maybe there's a way to bring you back."

[Dreamer]

Nadine smiled at his touch, loving and hating the familiarity of it. "I don't know. I don't know."

[Tolly12bells]

"Then," James paused for effect, "the best we can do is try.

[Dreamer]

Nadine sighed. "Yeah..." She gently kissed him again. "I should go. I have to spend some time alone to think and try to remember."

((She should run into Ryan again and she doesn't remember him so it's really easy for him to take advantage of her. And then James bursts in and saves the day at the last second.))

James nodded, and helped her up, "It's so good to see you again," he murmured.
