Sorry Won't Suffice

No matter how you beg and plead
“Sorry” won’t suffice
To heal the holes burned in my heart
On this lonely winter’s night
The chilling wind nips my skin
All I need now is a kiss
My heart aches for your warm embrace
But I remind myself I don’t deserve this
The snowflakes grace my pale, bruised flesh
Looking ghastly in the florescent glow
Of streetlights on the empty boulevard
You should be uneasy that I let the wounds show
I wear these scars like trophies
Of a burned and blurry past
Where one wrong word would knock me out
And still I fell so fast
My mind is filled with regrets
Of the things I let you do
The abuse, mistreatment, and neglect
Remind me why I loved you?
True, your eyes are charming
Your smile seals the deal
But your allure should be cancelled by your fists
And the way you made me feel
It took a lot of courage
To pack up and leave tonight
But seeing you with her?
That surely wasn’t right
All that I put up with
And this is what you do?
I don’t think anyone would blame me
For leaving abusive, cheating you
You’ll come home and find me gone
A note stuck to the door
“I’m sorry, but it’s time leave;
I can’t take this anymore.”
Hopefully by the time you read it
I’ll be miles and miles away
In a place where screaming, sobs and blood
Aren’t a staple of my day.
