Not Superman

Charming smiles
Billowing capes
Posing for portraits
Alongside a train
Fake.

Hoping that my beam
Covers the fact
That I came to this train
For a very different reason
Indeed.

Just moments before
It was rushing towards me
Whistle wailing
Out of control
Perfect.

Thoughts move swiftly
Through my mind
Telling me that this
Is the end at last
Relief.

Screaming echoes
And my thoughts run dry
I'm hit with the realization
I won't be the only one.
Guilt.

Take to the wind,
Fists pressed out
Train screeches
To a shuddering halt
Safety.

Landing on the tracks
Where just moments before
I stood waiting
For this oncoming train
Memory.

Reporters surge forwards
Cameras blind my eyes
All through this time
You're on my mind
Gone.

Memories flood
From not long ago
Last one I saved
Let me go.
Hurt.

My weakness
My pain.
My darkness and light.
You. You are
Kryptonite.
