Nadine gaped. It wasn't like her mom to set off an amber alert... although, James's mom might've...

James wasn't all that shocked. His mom had probably had a spaz attack when he wasn't home by 8:00. He really did need to talk to her about changing his curfew...

Nadine realized that they had left their phones and James's backpack at the lake. Not so good planning on their part.

((Er, what should the search party do now? xD ))

((Uhmm.... I dunno. Should they... take them back to their house(s)...? xD))

((I suppose. No, I have a better idea! The search people are police, and they take them back to the police station, and James's hysterical mother picks them up because Nadine's mom is gone somewhere and James's mom like insists on Nadine being "safe" because she's like having a meltdown and yeah. xD ))

The policeman picked up his walkie-talkie and pressed the side button, saying, "We've found them, now bringing them to the station." He looked back at Nadine and James. "C'mon, kids. Grab your sweatshirts and we'll take you back. The firefighters found your other belongings down by the lake--thankfully, the fire wasn't too large. You two were lucky, and even luckier we found you."
Nadine nodded solomnly, squeezing James's hand and then getting up and grabbing their hoodies. She tosses James's over to him.

((Ooh. So I suppose that if her Mom is gone, and James' mom is all spazzy, then Nadine's going to have to live at James' house for the night. xD))

James slipped his hoodie over his head, trying not to realize how awkward this moment was. They were both half-undressed, in each others' arms, in the middle of the night... It just couldn't look very good.
James pulled Nadine after the policemen, and into a police car. Greeaat, now we look like criminals, too.

The partition was down in the police car, so at least they didn't feel like criminals. James's bookbag and both of their cell phones were waiting in the back seat. As Nadine slid into the car and shut the door behind her, she grabbed her phone and texted James. Well, this is awkward...

(( LOL, half-undressed? xD If James was still shirtless, sure, but Nadine only got to enjoy that moment for all of three seconds. xD ))

James actually laughed out loud. The policemen whizzed around in the front seat:
"What's so funny?"
"Nothing. It's... nothing."

"Did you hit your head?" the policeman in the passenger seat asked while the other one continued driving. He looked to Nadine. "Did he hit his head?"
"No, he was probably just remembering something funny," said Nadine placidly, nudging James in the ribs with her elbow.

((ROFL! I love how paranoid the policeman is! "Did you hit your head?" *pause* "Did he hit his head?" xDD))

"I'm fine. It's alright. I didn't hurt myself," he snickered quietly, "Just, remembering. You know. ... Good times... At school... With... my..." pause, "friends."
The policeman pulled up to the station, where James could see his frantic mother spring towards the car. She flung the door open and nearly suffocated James in a hug.
"Mom! Er! I'm -gasp- fine!"
His mom payed no attention, "My little Jamesie! Where were you?! What happened!? Oh my god, you're alive!" she turned to the policemen, "He's alive!" she frantically spun in circles.
"Mom, you do realize I was only gone for a night..." James pointed out, eyeing her uneasily.
"Yes, but anything could have happened to you!" she exclaimed.

Nadine stepped out of the police car, wondering if her mom even noticed she was gone. She left James to calm his hysterical mother down and dialed her house. Ring. Ring. Ring. Ring. Ring. "Hi, you've reached the Sanchez family! We're not available right now, please leave a mess--" Nadine hung up and tried her mom's cell phone. Ring. Ring. Ring. Ring. Ring. "You've reached Suzanne. Leave a message after the--" Nadine angrily pressed end. So her mother had deserted her again already, had she?

James' mom was in the process of picking pine needles out of his hair when she realized Nadine had nowhere to go for a while, "Oh, come home with us! You can stay with James for today and tomorrow -- there's no way EITHER of you are going to school tomorrow -- and we'll take care of you until your mother comes home." His mom said.
Wow. Me being away for a night has just increased her normally spazzy self to downright frantic. James tried not to laugh again, for fear of the policemen taking him to a psychiatric ward for head injuries.

Nadine bit her lip. "Oh, are you sure, Mrs. Tuzet? I feel bad..."
