"Exactly," said Anya, glancing upward as well. Pinpricks of light dotted the inky night. She smiled, remembering an old childhood rhyme; star light, star bright, first star I see tonight...

"It truely is beautiful," he murmured. "New York is my favorite place to be, especially this time of night."

"It's so different from where I came from... this city is so alive. It almost drowns out the stars."

"Where did you come from, if you don't mind me asking? If you told me, I forgot."

((... where should she come from? xD))

"The suburbs in upper California," she replied.

Jason nodded. "That's pretty cool. I love California. I was born and raised in New York." he replyed.

Anya nodded. "I would've loved to be raised here. It must've been so full of intrigue for you as a child; so much excitement. Flashing lights, all the noise, and the people! It's so different from where I grew up... a gated community of huge houses owned by wealthy families that you barely ever saw. Everyone was so aloof... even my own parents were cold and distant."

((They should continue having deep-ish conversations, and then end up kissing or something like that. If you like the idea, that is. :=)))

Jason blinked. "It was pretty amazing... Lots of opprunities...." he glanced over at Anya. She was pretty. "I'm sorry. Truely, I am. I wish I could've been there for you. But now, I will be." he smiled.

(( I do. And then the next day Anya will try to act like nothing happened because she's annoying like that. xD ))

Anya glanced up at him, eyebrows raised, a small smile on her lips. "What's that supposed to mean?"

((xD All girls can be at times, though. ))

Jason smiled crookedly. "I want to be your friend, I think." he said, "get to know you some." he slowly edged closer to her.

"WHOAKAY," said Anya, taking a step back. "I'm not going to make out with you in the middle of the streets. Back at the Institute, in private, well that we can discuss." (( I love how she automatically assumes that's what he's doing. ))

((Haha, yeah. ))

Jason blinked. "Wha-? Make out? Um . . ." he stepped away from her. "Would you like to go back to the Institue? I'm sure Holly can find her way back to her Clan."

"You were approaching me and saying you wanted to get to know me. I've seen enough guys do that to notice it immediately," said Anya. "But sure, let's go back."

Jason shrugged, and set off towards the Institute. "I could just want to be your friend," he pointed out. "Your very best friend!"

"Maybe now you do. But eventually my stunning good looks and wild charm will get in the way. Trust me."

Jason rolled his eyes. "Yeah, I'm sure that'll happen."

"Trust me," said Anya.

"And let me guess, this has happened hundreds of times?"

"Oh yes," said Anya. "And then we either end up hooking up and then dating until I dump them or we just hook up."

They began approaching the Institute, and Jason opened its door, holding it open for Anya. "Really," he said, "sounds kind of like myself, actually." he led her back to her room.

"Suuuure," Anya said, rolling her eyes. "Thank you for holding the door, at least."

Jason smiled. "No problem. It's pretty late.."

"Yeah," agreed Anya.

"Um, I guess this is good night? My room is two doors down, if you need anything."

"Alrighty," said Anya, slipping into her room and closing the door behind her. She got into her pajamas; a tank top and soffee shorts. She sat cross-legged on the bed, twirling a strand of hair around her finger, glancing at her door, half-hoping Jason would pop in. Because honestly... he was pretty damn hot. Not that she would admit it to anyone. She just wanted a hookup, that was all. Just to prove to herself that she could get any guy, not just ones who liked her and she was indifferent about.
