James shrugged, "I've got no idea... One thing's for sure, though. We're lost." He looked around. He'd never been in these parts of the woods. In fact, he'd never been beyond the lake. He hadn't known so much more forest existed.

Nadine remained perfectly calm. "Well, once the fire is put out, we can find our way back to the lake." She sat down on a rock in the middle of the clearing, trying not to mind that the rain was drenching her to the bone. She put her hood up, but it didn't do much good.

James noticed Nadine's discomfort. He looked around, and then, "Oh, hey, look at this," he lifted up the bottom branch of a HUGE pine tree, revealing a roomy, dry area underneath, "It'll be dry, protected, and probably relatively warm under here."

"Great!" Nadine hurried to the dry area. James had been right.

There was only one problem. The dead pine needles were soft until one stabbed you in the back of the head. James had one worry. If they happened to have to stay overnight, they were very wet, and that could hold some potential problems.

Nadine was thinking along the same lines.
"After a while, we're going to need to make a fire... of some sort... to keep us warm and maybe dry us off a little... otherwise we'll get really sick..."

"I know... Otherwise, it could be a long night," James blushed as he said that, "I mean, because of not being able to be warm! Not because of... Oh God, there really is no way for me to make this sound right, is there?"

Nadine rolled her eyes, grinning. "I know what you mean." She kissed him on the cheek and leaned on his shoulder.

James sighed, and leaned back against a the tree trunk.
"One second." He sat forward again, and peeled his sweatshirt off, now just wearing his shirt underneath. He hung his sweatshirt up on a branch so that it could hopefully dry a little bit.
"I just realized, we're supposed to be in school right now." James laughed.

Nadine laughed. "And instead, we're lost in the middle of the forest! Which isn't nearly as bad as sitting through math." She took off her hoodie as well, wearing a white cami underneath.

James blinked a few times. Whoa. Nadine was HOT. He jolted back to reality.
"Yeah, I know."

Nadine then realized that her hair probably looked horrible. She pulled it out of the sopping wet messy bun, having some difficulty getting the hair tie out, and flipped her hair upside down, shaking it out, and then flipped back up again.

James awkward lay down in the pine needles and stared up the tree trunk, "I wonder if anybody's looking for us." He pondered.

James felt like they stayed there for a while. He saw the sun setting through the upper branches of the tree.
"Soo... Do you think they put the fire out, and we should go home, or just stay here?"

"We could try to find our way back, but I don't know... maybe it's best to stay here for tonight, and then try to get back to the beach tomorrow when we have the daylight."

James nodded, "Because we ran AT LEAST two miles. Getting back where we came from in the dark wouldn't be a good idea. But, we can watch for shooting stars, if you want."

Nadine smiled. "I'd like that." She cuddled up next to him as the fiery sun sun below the horizon.

"I was just about to say that," James said quietly, "Can you imagine? But camera's never seem to quite capture the actual beauty. Only living the moment can do that."
